Welcome to Coláiste Mhuire
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our website which I hope you will find interesting and informative. Coláiste Mhuire opened in September 1996, replacing the old Vocational School, to meet the second level educational needs for the North-West Kilkenny areas of Johnstown, Urlingford, Crosspatrick, Galmoy, Lisdowney and Freshford. Recent years has seen our catchment area expand to include an increasing numbers of students from bordering counties Tipperary and Laois.
The school, through a comprehensive education programme, aims to provide educational opportunities to meet the needs of each individual student. It is a non-selective school, enrolling pupils of the full ability range from all sections of the social strata. It is co-educational with a policy of eliminating gender bias, encouraging girls to study traditional boy’s subjects and vice versa. It provides religious education for all denominations.
Colaiste Mhuire Johnstown is a modern second level school whose central purpose is the moral, spiritual, intellectual, social and personal development of students in the context of delivering the curriculum prescribed by the Minister of Education and Skills in an atmosphere of care and concern.
To create a learning environment that is happy, safe, challenging & current so that all members of our school community can thrive.
