Transition year students received a very interesting and informative talk today (Tuesday, 24th February 2015) on the Value of History. The guest speaker was Dr David Fitzgerald from the History Department at University College Cork. Follow them on Twitter @UUCHistory
The talk was arranged by Mr Eamon Phelan from our History & English Department, in conjunction with fellow Crosspatrick native and UCC lecturer Prof. Pádraig Ó Macháin. Padraig, (known locally as Pat Vaughan). has a long association with Coláiste Mhuire Johnstown as three of his sons, Harry, Michael & Eoghan, are past pupils with his fourth son, Paddy, currently in 2nd year. Padraig’s wife, Joan Vaughan, is a former Chairperson of our Parents’ Council.
The students and staff would like to thank both David and Padraig for giving of their time. We are confident the students were left with a deeper understanding of the importance of History both academically and culturally.
